What is an Exercise Physiologist?

An exercise physiologist is an Allied Health professional who specialises in the benefits of exercise to help patients get fitter for all round good health, or to treat patients with a medical condition or musculoskeletal injury through safe exercise.
Exercise physiologists study at university and have a wide range of knowledge about the human body and the benefit that exercise has on it, both mentally and physically.
Exercise physiologists are knowledgeable about the effects that exercise has on the musculoskeletal system, as well as on the cardiovascular and endocrine systems. They can prescribe a course of safe exercises to meet either fitness or rehabilitation goals. Clinical pilates or Hydrotherapy may be recommended, also home based or gym based exercise routines.
Exercise physiologists can treat medical conditions and injuries such as obesity, arthritis, diabetes, osteoporosis, depression, asthma, low back pain, falls and balance problems and cardiovascular diseases, as well as many other conditions.
Our Exercise physiologist can do one-on-one sessions or you can join in our group classes on offer. We also do home visits if you can not make it into our clinic.
Mitchell Lauder our exercise physiologist at BodyFix is fully qualified, experienced and a member of the 'Exercise & Sports Science Australia Association'.
